YMMV / Danny Gonzalez

Go To

  • Crossing the Line Twice: His (in)famous I'm Gonna Kill Santa Claus, a cheerful, upbeat song about how Danny plans to kill and replace Santa, stating that not only he will continue to enslave the elves and even will sleep with Santa's widow.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Characters he made for skits like Dolphin Man and Vampire Dad are extremely popular.
    • Despite just being alter-egos he made to fool his audience, fans like Zayden Longzan and Fox Szn / Ned Flames a lot and often reference them as though they're separate individuals from Danny.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • His fandom overlaps quite a bit with the Drew Gooden fandom, due to their similar content, numerous collaborations, and their genuine off-screen friendship.
    • Fans of Kurtis Conner regularly watch him, as they tend to tackle similar topics and have similar vibes.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The "War Room" organization explored in "Terrifying Alpha Male Club" was founded by no one other than Andrew Tate. Danny himself made a follow-up video after criminal charges against Tate came out.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Danny buying a "tactical baby stroller" in January 2023 turned out to be more relevant to Danny's life than fans expected, as he and Laura later revealed they're expecting a baby that October. While he later revealed the timing was a coincidence, all his jokes about not being a dad yet but getting baby fever aged quite well.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In his review of Radio Rebel, Danny makes fun of the word "morp", saying that it's "morp time" and that people will be "morped". Change the p to a b, and it becomes morbin' time.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • A common fandom joke is that he and Drew Gooden, a creator with similar content and humor, are actually the same person. The meme, shared by both channels, even forced the two of them to go on the "We Are Two Different People" tour, not that it stopped the meme from existing.

  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • That damned living-nutcracker in the "Commercials From My Nightmares" video. Danny tests out the "Tac-Visor" on it, and it goes from being a cute statue to a creepy, painted-up Danny in a nutcracker costume. He starts screaming that someone can see him, scaring Danny into removing the visor and insisting to the audience that it didn't work at all. The audience reacted to the scene with horror, bringing it up repeatedly in the comments as a legitimately scary moment and character.
    • His spanking commercial, in which a viciously happy Danny spanks a miserable and begging Danny. Danny himself admits that the commercial is jarring and hard to forget. Of all the commercials he made, that one got shown the least, because it was too disturbing to catch on.
    • The nutcracker-Danny returns at the very end of "This Nutcracker Knockoff Is a Nightmare", looking just as horrifying.
  • Play-Along Meme:
    • In two separate videos, Danny attempted to fool his audience by disguising himself as new people to get clout for the new identity. Though these attempts failed, fans still like to pretend that these identities (cousin Zayden Long and musician Ned Flames) are separate people, such as mocking Danny's music while praising Ned Flames' "Circus" or chastising people who discuss Ned Flames on Danny's subreddit for being off-topic.
    • In another video, Danny and Drew Gooden read a bizarre slashfic that a fan had written about them, in which Drew's wife Amanda has inexplicably gone missing in Afghanistan (thus leaving him free to marry Danny) and Danny's wife Laura is completely unmentioned. Fans continue to comment about her tragic disappearance, and ask if she's ever been located. This died down after Amanda asked for the jokes to stop.
  • Tear Jerker: Despite being a parody song about Johnny Johnny Yes Papa, many legitimately found "Johnny Johnny" to be sad, focusing on the tragedy of a cheated-on father missing his son, who remains in the custody of his mother and new stepfather Chad. This line in particular stands out:
Come Johnny, just slide and come
Back into my life, 'cuz I miss my son
