YMMV / Crisis Zone (1999)

Go To

  • Demonic Spiders: Crisis Zone has the worst variety of them with red soldiers - though they come with a warning beep (alongside the red reticule that denotes a hit), they also fire extremely fast, even at the default difficulty. Knife-wielders that either suddenly pop up in front of you or throw knives from afar also count, as it's hard to tell if a thrown knife will hit you or not.
    • The machete-wielding enemies who attack just as quickly with no on-screen warning whatsoever. First-time players always take hits from them.
  • Narm: The shields in Crisis Zone can eat absurd amounts of punishment, but they get particularly ridiculous whenever nastier threats and bosses get involved. The latter game implies your shield is advanced tech, but in the former's seemingly more realistic case, missiles outright disappear on contact like they pass right through you rather than explode or anything.
  • Shocking Moments: During the Final Boss fight with Derrick Lynch, he briefly retreats while six blue solders — usually fodder for your machinegun at best — pop out and all of them fire Crisis Sightings at you.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: Also, the ending theme to Crisis Zone rhymes with "Fighting 17th" from Backdraft.
  • That One Boss: Tiger and Edge in Garland Technology Center. Tiger isn't too big of a threat, as he lobs blatantly-telegraphed heavy objects at you. Your real threat is Edge, who moves fast and hurls waves of knives at you, as if mooks having knives wasn't bad enough. Of course, you can shoot the knives out of the air, but they move in such erratic patterns and great numbers that it's safer to just shield against them entirely...while still having to complete each segment before the time runs out and costs you a life anyway.
