YMMV / Crime Syndicate (2021)

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Lex Luthor's Race Lift was likely meant as a nod to Superman & Lois featuring an black Captain Luthor from a world with an evil Superman. Then, of course, the show revealed "Luthor" was actually the hero John Henry Irons AKA Steel.
  • So Okay, It's Average: General consensus has been the book has done a couple of interesting twists on the Crime Syndicate, but the miniseries overall feels more like a filler story or prologue building up to something more important that never happens. It notably takes all six issues before the Syndicate is officially formed, and by that point Johnny Quick is dead.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Atomica barely gets any development that doesn't involve her connection to Johnny Quick, to the point we only see her backstory after she met him.
    • Speaking of Johnny, he's defined almost entirely by his own murder. Other than learning his Freudian Excuse and how he met Atomica, he's never given any meaningful moments.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: John Stewart's entire character-arc is centered almost entirely around the Power Ring he wears. The comic only gently nudges at the relationship between John and his daughter, which the final issue took great care to establish as one of his big motivators. The comic sets up a parallel between John's Knight Templar nature and his strained fathering but never bothers to really connect the two beyond lip-service - resulting in an unnatural-feeling turn to the dark side.
