YMMV / Creep (2014)

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Given how much of a manipulator he is, how much of Josef's life is actually true is up for interpretation. Does he actually have cancer, or was it a ploy to gain sympathy? Is the story where he raped Angela true, and if so, how much of it is truthful? Does he actually have a son, and if he does, did he lose custody?
    • Josef's story where he discovers animal porn on the computer, blames it on his wife/sister, and later dons a mask to rape her is rife for interpretation if it's actually true. Was Angela actually the one watching animal porn? After all, given Josef's response to her supposedly doing it and all of his other horrifying acts, it's entirely possible that he did it and blamed her to justify hurting her.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • Why did Aaron freak out so much after Josef told him that he wore the Peachfuzz mask when he raped his wife? Remember, Aaron is supposed to be filming Josef for the latter's unborn son. Aaron probably thought the baby was a product of the rape. ...or maybe it had something to do with Aaron just having a guy confessing to raping his wife?
    • Even though the main page describes the sequel's ending as a Bolivian Army Ending, Sara is not really under threat. Whether it's Josef himself or some imitator who's stalked her onto the subway, this is a highly crowded environment and his ability to either attack or just keep following her would be severely compromised. Even if you figure the jaded commuters on the NYC subway wouldn't lend a finger to help her under any circumstances, it's more than likely she has some kind of concealed defensive weapon as a precaution, and depending on what type it is she would use justified self defence to either kill him or subdue him (taser, anyone?) until the police could put him away for multiple life sentences (or, in the case of an imitator, some lesser charge, giving her the chance to move away again). Indeed, if the stalker is none other than Josef, his motivation in revealing his presence to her with his trademark whistle (as opposed to hiding in plain sight and continuing to stalk her to a more secluded area) may just be a continuation of his Death Seeker tendencies he said he had in the main body of the film. Maybe he still wants her to kill him, or for the police to gun him down.
  • Paranoia Fuel: The entire concept of the movie. Imagine you answer a simple-sounding ad for a film-making opportunity, only to discover that the person hiring you is not only acting extremely oddly, but is also very dishonest, and eventually begins stalking you. Also, the person hiring you is a serial killer... who knows where you live.
