- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The game was hugely popular in France. How popular? Between one third and fourty per cent of the game's global sales were made there alone in the 2000s. Knowing this, it's not really surprising that the sequel focused on the Napoleonic Wars.
- Good Bad Bugs: Every now and then, a unit that moves twice as fast as the normal speed of that type of unit will be produced. Meaning the fastest cavalry units can run through the entire map in a matter of seconds.
- Protagonist Title Fallacy: Somewhat. The game and its expansions do have Cossack units and there is a campaign centered on the nascent 17th century Cossack Hetmanate in Ukraine in the base game (it was primarily designed with that in mind out of Creator Provincialism), but the other campaigns (bar parts of the Russian and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth ones) are not about Cossacks at all, since it covers conflicts between a lot of other European nations of the 17th century and early 18th century from monarchic France and Great Britain to Tsarist Russia, with also Algeria and the Ottoman empire.
