YMMV / Boys From County Hell

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: Eugene having to rip his father's leg off should be revolting and horrifying, and it is. But this is done with the father's permission to use as an Improvised Weapon...and it's what properly subdues Abhartach!.
  • Genius Bonus: The climax has The Reveal that sunlight has no effect on Abhartach, and Eugene later reading that the original Dracula wasn't killed by it either. He alludes to it being made up by "some German", referencing Nosferatu - the Trope Codifier for sunlight killing vampires.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Parnell Scott as the snarky teenager who catches Abhartach lurking, and calls out that he won't see anything good because he and the girl are Just Friends.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Eugene is meant to be seen as an eternal screw-up with no direction in life. Except he's grieving for his mother's death, and he has no job because it's a small town with limited work and his only option is to go back working with his father. Said father is also incredibly demeaning and rude to him, meaning it's understandable that he might not have a clear idea of what to do just yet. Eugene also takes far more of the blame for the bypass than Francie, even if he only found out the latter was in charge of it the day William died. He also gets way too much flack for that, when he's only responsible in the sense that William was the one out drinking with him that night. Eugene in fact went out of his way to walk William home.
  • The Woobie: Eugene is grieving for his mother, has a crotchety and borderline abusive father who blames him for everything, has to watch two of his best friends die and takes so much undeserved shit from his town.
