YMMV / Arrow S 7 E 13 Star City Slayer

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Dinah's never been popular, but it's hard not to feel sorry for her after her throat is slashed by Stanley and she loses her powers as a result; she may not have been Stuffed into the Fridge like Sara and Laurel were, but given she's the third Canary on the show it's still a pretty humiliating treatment.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal:
    • In the comics the Star City Slayer is the title given to Stanley Dover, so anyone with even a passing knowledge of this could put two and two together long before The Reveal in the episode's climax.
    • Advertisement:
    • Felicity is revealed to be alive in the Bad Future which really comes as a surprise to almost nobody.
    • The reveal that Blackstar is actually Oliver and Felicity's daughter could've been seen coming a mile away.
  • Cliché Storm: The climax of the episode, where Team Arrow investigates the "abandoned" building for a serial killer with an ominous thunderstorm in the background, is rife with classic horror movie tropes, one of which Curtis even lampshades. But face works.
  • I Knew It!:
    • People correctly assumed Dinah would receive the throat scar she is seen with in the flashforwards in this episode.
    • Despite fan theories varying from Thea and Roy or Black Siren and Earth-2 Oliver Queen, Oliver and Felicity were still the most popular candidates for Blackstar's potential parents/relatives.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Stanley Dover might be a deranged killer, but he was horribly abused during his childhood and he's genuinely mentally ill and he should definite be in an asylum than a Hellhole Prison like Slabside which can only exacerbate his mental illness.
  • Advertisement:
  • Narm: The rest of Team Arrow arriving literally one second after Stanley is taken out, playing out like the whole trick with the bottle would have been pointless if Felicity hadn’t deliberately pushed his Berserk Button.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Black Siren doesn't appear in this episode due to Katie Cassidy putting on the finishing touches and eventually getting married during the filming period.
  • Word of Saint Paul: Even though Blackstar goes by Mia Smoak in favor of Mia Queen and explicitly calls herself Felicity's daughter, her actress Katherine McNamara has confirmed that she is Felicity's daughter with Oliver.

How well does it match the trope?
