YMMV / Aaron

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Mrs Chester's stress appears to have been brought on by the fact that her younger son is so rebellious they've had to drive him back from drunken antics, he got a girl pregnant in his teen years and has just fled the country without telling her. Perhaps Chris and Adam are a little too hard on her. Then again, the fact that she was apparently fine with covering up said pregnancy and that Adam has to leave without telling her suggests that the boys' attitudes towards her are pretty spot on. The reason Chris hasn't returned home once in the last three years is implied to be because their mother is so hard to be around.
    • The brothers drifted apart long before the pregnancy happened, leaving it in doubt as to whether it was Adam or Chris who started it. Chris states that he resented Adam's attention for his antics, suggesting that he may have already begun to drift away from his brother before the move. However he also seems hurt that Adam barely contacted him at all - suggesting that Adam had his own part to play.
    • Given Adam's drowning of his sorrows after his fight with Chris - and the hopeless look he gives him when he turns up drunk at the house - does he actually agree with what Chris says? Maybe the drinking was a quasi Then Let Me Be Evil situation for him?
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Bobby Calloway got a lot of attention over the fact that he appears shirtless in the scene where Adam turns up drunk.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Despite their massive row, when Chris sees Adam vomiting outside the house, his Big Brother Instinct comes out and he helps Adam inside. It then implies that he sits by Adam's bedside until he wakes up.
    • The walking off together ending. Despite what an ass he was to Adam earlier, Chris looks like he's trying to make amends.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Chris seems like a prize idiot for his rant towards Adam - especially when it's revealed he was there to tell him about a nephew he lost - but he seems so hurt by being The Un-Favourite towards Adam.
  • Nausea Fuel: Adam's very realistic barf-fest on the front porch. Note that it averts the Vomit Discretion Shot.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Listen to how defeated Adam sounds when telling Chris about his story. It sounds like the weight of the world is in his voice. It cracks as he says "yeah, he was" - it kills him to talk about his son in the past tense.
    • To say nothing of his little speech to Aaron in the garden. Still a kid himself but speaking as a father to his son.
    • Chris's reaction to the news counts as well. He discovers that he had a nephew and then lost him in the space of about five minutes. Adam didn't get to say goodbye, and Chris didn't even get to say hello.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?: The film was released online right as Ireland was campaigning to have abortion legalised. Word of God is that this is was a coincidence.
  • The Woobie:
    • Adam once his history is revealed. It's implied that he had to go through the pregnancy alone, since Arianna was sent away to live with her aunt.
    • Arianna herself is an offscreen Woobie when you think about what she's had to deal with.
