YMMV / A Meaningful Sacrifice

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: After all the hell he puts the characters through, including causing the death of Park Seongmin, reading Joonyeong brutally kill Gwinam sure is satisfying.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • In-universe, Joonyeong is troubled to learn that him subtly rejecting Woojin's advances the night of their Almost Kiss led to a lot of mental turmoil for the other boy, especially considering his history dealing with homophobia.
    • Given the portrayal of Ha-ri and Woo-jin's father in the author's other works, it can be discerned that at least one of their parents would have taken the situation seriously and defended him, but Woojin really believed that Hari was the only one on his side, and since the man is dead in this universe, there's no reason for him to start believing otherwise.
  • Moe: Soo-wi.
  • Nightmare Fuel: It's in an Alternate Universe, but goddamn if Joonyeong coming across Gwinam's decayed corpse, as it's being feasted on by maggots, the brick used to kill him feet away, isn't this.
  • Toy Ship: Soowi and Jeonghoon.
  • The Woobie:
    • Joon-yeong. Sacrificing himself for his friends is one thing. Having to deal with the unfortunate changes that comes from becoming a hambie, such as super hearing being a bitch when it comes to loud noises and a craving for human flesh. He nearly bites his mother, and then when he tries to eat her bulgogi, which he loves, he realizes he can't digest any human food. His father died before they could reunite, and then his mother sacrifices herself for him, leading to him getting a Promotion to Parent for his sister. He's in love with Woojin but fears accidentally losing control and biting him and also feels like a burden. The night they get together, he has a horrible nightmare about accidentally killing him. He's also hiding that he has horrible anxiety and PTSD, only getting caught during a panic attack once after meeting Eun-ji, when it was revealed they could have been saved if not for Cheolsoo.
    • Woo-jin too. He was neglected by his parents in favor of his sister. Was an Armoured Closet Gay because he was sexually harassed by a group of older boys when he was in middle school and knew that he wouldn't get support from the adults in his life. Despite his problems with them, loved his parents and held out hope for their survival, all the while his sister grows even more distant from him. Hari finally reveals that she lied about not knowing if they were dead or not, leading to a vicious fight and them being estranged from one another for months on end.
