The heroes of lonelygirl15 could've made things a lot easier on themselves with fewer boneheaded mistakes.

    Season 1
  • Daniel and Bree have discovered circumstantial evidence suggesting that Jonas is secretly working for the Order. Based on this, they've tied him to a chair and interrogated him. He's denied everything, but they have no hard evidence to disprove him working for the Order. Daniel starts to doubt that Jonas is working for the Order.
    • You'd Expect: For Daniel to realize that they can't risk letting him go if he really is an Order member, that they have no hard evidence he isn't one, and just try to get his reasoning through to Bree.
    • Instead: He loosens Jonas' ropes because he feels sorry for him. Naturally, he escapes.
  • Bree, Daniel, and Jonas are keeping a not-kidnapped brainwashed cult girl tied up. Bree has been alone with her, and they've been having a productive conversation for the first time. The girl mentions that the ropes are hurting her.
    • You'd Expect: That Bree, remembering what happened earlier, would feel bad for her but leave her ropes tight.
    • Instead: Bree loosens the girl's ropes.
    • The Result: The girl escapes.
  • Daniel and Sarah have just found documents that contain important scientific research. Daniel can't make any sense of them, so Sarah decides she wants to take a look at them. They are currently standing right next to water.
    • You'd Expect: That Sarah or Daniel would realize the danger and step away from the water, Sarah could just ask Daniel to hand them to her, or Daniel could let Sarah take them.
    • Instead: Sarah tries to grab them out of Daniel's hands, and Daniel tries to pull them back, and the papers fall into the water.
    • The Result: The papers get water-damaged, causing a delay in getting the data figured out.

    Season 2
  • After a fast, confused encounter with Order agents, Jonas becomes convinced that his sister Emma, who is trait positive, has some kind of superpower. As a result of this, Jonas thinks he should take Emma to meet whoever is making the LaRezisto videos, who claim they can train Emma to use her powers. Daniel and Sarah are far less sure, and Daniel offers a reasonable alternative for what happened and points out they can't trust LaRezisto anyway.
    • You'd Expect: That Jonas would consider these alternatives, and work with his friends to decide a course of action.
    • Instead: He decides to take Emma to the LaRezisto base to get training.
    • As a Result: Turns out LaRezisto wasn't trustworthy, and was actually a rogue Elder who wanted to kidnap Emma to use in his own Ceremony, and Jonas delivered Emma straight into his hands.
  • Jonas and Sarah are cycling through the desert, running away from a Hymn of One camp they ended up at by accident. The Hymn of One members there were friendly, but they still want to get back to California. Sarah gets a flat tire, and then Jonas and her get into a fight.
    • You'd Expect: For Jonas to realize that even if he's pissed at her, he can't ride off and leave Sarah behind in the desert.
    • Instead: He rides off and leaves Sarah behind in the desert.
    • As a Result: When he comes back after cooling off, Sarah is gone. Thinking Jonas had abandoned her completely, she went back to the Hymn of One camp. As a result of this, Sarah gets partially indoctrinated by the Hymn of One and the rest of the TAAG has to show up to rescue her.
  • The TAAG receives a message from a hardcore Hymn of One member that Dr. Hart, who they thought was dead, supposedly wants to meet with them at a specific location, with Emma. Jonas is immediately suspicious, but Emma trusts Dr. Hart — who they still haven't seen alive since his apparent death — and wants to go.
    • You'd Expect: Jonas to put his foot down and veto going to meet him, since it's probably a setup, or for Emma to listen to reason and realize it's probably a setup.
    • Instead: Emma won't be persuaded and Jonas gives in and goes with her to the specified location.
    • As a Result: Of course, it's a setup, and Emma gets kidnapped again.]]

    Season 3
  • Having hitherto executed their plan flawlessly, the TAAG is on the verge of being able to kidnap Edward Salinas. The last step of the plan is for Steve to hit him over the head with a tire iron. Salinas sees it coming at the last second and yells, "Security!"
    • You'd Expect: For Steve to wack him over the head.
    • Instead: Steve drops the tire iron.
    • As a Result: The plan fails and the TAAG has to flee the scene. The incident also causes Steve to left on the side of the road because they suspect he might be a traitor.
  • Daniel uncovers hard evidence that a member of the TAAG is The Mole. He decides to give this person a chance to explain themselves, and after talking to them learns that the reason they turned traitor is that their family is being threatened, and they plead with Daniel to not tell the others.
    • You'd Expect: For Daniel to realize that this person is probably desperate, so he should play along for now and discuss what to do in private with the others. Or, if he insists on telling the others, he should either keep a close eye on this person or yell for the others to come.
    • Instead: He rejects their pleas, says he's going to tell the others, and turns his back on the traitor.
    • As a Result: Daniel gets tapped on the head and the mole is long gone by the time he comes to. Also as a result, Jonas gets kidnapped.
