Hobbits and Hole Dwellers is a Campaign Comic that follows Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Trilogy. No relation to DM of the Rings (though the author acknowledges being inspired by it).

Hobbits and Hole Dwellers Contains Examples Of:

  • Anachronism Stew: Invoked when Bailey nonchalantly claims that Balin knew that Dwalin was at Bilbo's house because Dwalin called Balin's cellphone. By the time Ted's processed this, Bailey's already moved on.
    • Dwalin came to Bilbo's house because, according to Bailey, he was in desperate need of animal crackers.
  • Blatant Lies: Ted being represented by a rather frazzled Bilbo, randomly stomping off in a huff to "take a minute" (which turns into five), and then telling everyone that they have to clear out in an hour (while evading telling why) don't make him insisting that he's "fine" very convincing.
  • Campaign Comic: Of The Hobbit Trilogy, though in the grand Campaign Comic tradition, the plot tries to take its down.
  • Chewbacca Defense: #21 and #22 Ted desperately tries to rein in Bailey. Bailey, being a young child, responds with this without even trying.
Ted: You're too young to roleplay Gandalf, Balin, and Dwalin at the same time-
Bailey: Not now, Dwalin needs to show [Balin] where the animal crackers are. [as Dwalin] Hi, Balin! You're just in time! I found some more of Bilbo's animal crackers!
Ted: Hey, how did you find that box?
Bailey: [without skipping a beat] Dwalin's a detective.
Ted: Well, uh, how did Balin find Dwalin?
    [Beat]
    Ted: Uh, Bailey-
Bailey: [as Dwalin] These might be the best animal crackers ever! Call Gandalf too, Balin!
Ted: [Giving up] Ummm, I think I just remembered, Gandalf is anti-tech-
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: A rather twitchy Ted excuses himself for five minutes. When he comes back, he asks Bailey to tell him about her character. Bailey responds by asking which character of hers he means.
Ted: What do you mean, which one? You only had that wizard five minutes ago- wait.
  • The Real Man: Ted, who is desperate to just go and fight. Unfortunately, Owen and Bailey have other ideas...
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Bailey likes animal crackers quite a lot, and Owen and Ted both take advantage of this to distract/bribe her when the situation calls for it.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Bailey as Gandalf declares that she has wizard business to do. Ted, presumably watching her wander off, tells her to stay put, but-
Bailey/Gandalf: You're right! I'll write my name on your door so I don't get lost.
  • Throw It In!: In-Universe. Ted complains about a coffee stain in the area where he and Owen are setting up their game, so Owen suggests that they pretend it's a smoke ring floating off into the sky.
