There is probably going to be a customizable vivarium or similar building
One of the confirmed animals is a spider, and the game is believed/rumored to have at least one snake as well. These are very small animals that make more sense kept in small, indoor enclosures instead of large outdoor exhibits, and given the seemingly ambitious scope of the game, the building would probably be customizable to some degree. I'm not sure just how detailed customization could be, but perhaps we will be given a choice of what small animals to be featured? And if we're very, very, very, lucky, perhaps when you click the building it could change screens to let you micromanage inside the building, where you could choose the placement of the tanks, and would have tiny foliage and rocks to choose from and place inside the tanks? The fact the spider is confirmed to have proper animations (unlike Zoo Tycoon's static animals in the Reptile House and similar buildings) and be able to escape seems to supports this theory, but some of this is probably just my dreaming.
  • Confirmed at E3! However, tank customization is limited to toggling enrichment items on and off and decorating the exterior. Also, arthropods can't actually escape. Exhibit animals don't move from place to place on-camera.

Aquatic and marine animals expansion pack
It has already been confirmed that marine animals will not be included in the base game, but they may be included in a paid DLC pack. If this is indeed the case, it is possible that dolphin and orca performances will not be included in the game due to the backlash against SeaWorld.
  • Confirmed, although the Aquatic Pack includes semi-aquatic species such as penguins, seals, otters and caimans, instead of fully-fledged marine life.

Extinct and prehistoric animals expansion pack.
There could be animals from the Cenozoic era such as phorusrhacids, giant ground sloths, saber-toothed cats, and woolly mammoths, as to avoid overlap with Jurassic World: Evolution, as well as animals driven to extinction in recent times due to humans, like the dodo bird and thylacine. However, if dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals do appear, they will most likely be designed to be scientifically accurate (e.g. feathered theropods).
  • The release of Prehistoric Kingdom makes this very unlikely, as that game is pretty much already a Spiritual Successor to Planet Zoo, with prehistoric animals.
    • It's probably also unlikely via the focus of the game. It is possible that if de-extinction cloning has several large successes in the future, like with the Thylacine or Pyrenean Ibex, it might be added, but that's a very big if.

Domestic Animals Expansion Pack.
There are already some domestic animals in the game, namely llamas and reindeer. The pack can potentially add goats, horses, donkeys, cattle, yak or water buffalo.
  • Confirmed! The Barnyard Animal Pack adds to the game Sussex chicken, highland cattle, Alpine goat, alpaca, American standard donkey, Hill Radnor sheep and Tamworth pig, while the wild water buffalo got addded in the Wetlands Animal Pack.

The South America DLC was originally supposed to have a Career Mode scenario.
Not only is it the only DLC as of September 2021 to have no Career Mode entry whatsoever, but it introduced a special "mountaintop" zoo habitat to the sandbox to represent the South American Tropical environment. The only other biome to have a special environment in the sandbox is the Australian desert, introduced in the Australian DLC and used for the timed "Outback Comeback" scenario.

Potential future Expansion Packs
  • Nocturnal Pack: With the set up for walkthrough exhibits in place, Bats would likely be a focus feature of this expansion alongside other nocturnal species like Kiwis.
  • Urban Wildlife Pack: Focusing on animals well adapted to human cities with some of the highlight animals being Leopards, Peregrine Falcons, and Languar Monkeys.
  • Bird Pack: Introducing walk-through aviaries and a variety of popular zoo birds.
  • Islands Pack: Focusing on animals famous for living exclusively on islands, like Madagascar's Aye-Aye, Vancouver Island's Vancouver Island Marmot, Japan's Hokkaido Brown Bear and Sika Deer, and various native inhabitants of Hawaii.
    • Due to release of Oceania Pack, which was island-themed, the release of similarly themed Islands Pack is rather doubtful.
  • American Pack: Focusing on animals native to the United States such as Black-footed Ferrets, Black Bears, Turkeys, and Canada Geese.
  • China Pack: Focusing on animals native to China, such as Chinese Tigers, Père David's Deer, Wallas Cat, and Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys
  • Russia Pack: Focusing on animals native to Russia, such as the Saiga, Chamois, Musk Ox, and Pine Marten.
    • Given the fact that Russia had invaded Ukraine the release of such pack would spawn massive controversies. At least above mentioned animals could be released through different packs (Chamois in below mentioned Mountain Pack, Saiga Antelope in the Strange Animals Pack, Musk Ox in the Tundra/Polar Pack and Pine Marten in the Taiga/Boreal Pack).
  • Mountain Pack: Focusing on animals native to mountain ranges such as Bighorn Sheep, Markhor, Barbary Stag, and Chinchillas.
  • Strange Animals Pack: Focusing on "strange looking" animals like Saiga, Shoebill, Patagonian Mara, Marabou, Gerenuk, Virginia Opossum, Thorny Devil and Elephant Seal.
  • Woodlands Pack: Focusing on the animals living in cold climate forests such as wisent, wild boar, western hedgehog, american black bear, white stork, eastern wild turkey and coyote.
    • Semi-confirmed with Eurasia Animal Pack which has above mentioned pack vibe, and features two animals mentioned there (wisent and wild boar) with additions of mute swan, wolverine, takin, hermann's tortoise and saiga antelope and sloth bear, two animals that no one expected to see in a cold-climate themed pack.
  • Burrowing Animals Pack: Further expanding the burrow animal erichment item by adding new species of burrowing animals like hairy armadillo, greater bilby, short-beaked echidna and honey badger.
  • Coastal Pack: Marine themed pack introducing fully aquatic animals, focusing on animals inhabiting the coastlines like the walrus, sea otter, common bottlenose dolphin, west indian manatee, green sea turtle and the sourthern rockhopper penguin.
  • Farm / Petting Zoo Pack: Introducing playgrounds and mechanic where guests hand-feed animals (such as giraffes, elephants, horses, gazelles, rhinos and sheep) and focusing on the farm animals such as rabbits, sheep, goats, chickens, guinea pigs, donkeys, pigs, ducks, horses and cattle.
    • Confirmed! The Barnyard Animal Pack adds to the game Sussex chicken, highland cattle, Alpine goat, alpaca, American standard donkey, Hill Radnor sheep and Tamworth pig. On the sad side of things, the pack doesn't feature any rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks or domestic horses.

The final animal total will be 200

'Tis the scuttlebutt found by data miners apparently.

One major update pack will add in more transportation
Many zoos have shuttles for moving guests around quickly, trains and monorails for viewing animals from different or exclusive angles, and helping with crowding. Frontier have developed this tech before for the Jurassic World games, so a version in Planet Zoo is not implausible.
