McSquizzy is a grey squirrel who escaped culling in his native Scotland.
Why would a squirrel with a Scottish accent be living in the North American wilderness, besides Rule of Funny? Maybe he is really from Scotland. In Real Life, Eastern grey squirrels were imported by the Victorians to the United Kingdom in the late 19th century. They've since thrived there and have been blamed for displacing the native red squirrel (although it has been argued that the greys are innocent and other factors are responsible for the red squirrels' decline). Due to this belief, there has been a controversial grey squirrel cull throughout the United Kingdom. As a Scottish-born grey squirrel, McSquizzy was forced to battle hunters participating in the cull before managing to flee the persecution he faced in his homeland to settle in the wilderness of North America (along with the army of grey squirrels he had assembled).

All of the deer are related.
We only see one herd of deer in the movie, so it figures that most of the deer would be related to each other to one degree or another. In fact, when I first saw the movie when I was younger, I thought Ian and Giselle were siblings.

Gordy and Beth are related.
Both of them know the teddy bear song. Beth sings it to get Boog to go to sleep while Shaw uses it while he is hunting Boog. I will say that I don't think they are siblings. They don't look a like, so they are probably cousins. It is a small town, so they are probably related anyway.
  • The teddy bear song exists outside of the movie and is not uncommon as a children's lullaby; both of them knowing it would mean little without other evidence.

Ian is gay
Aside from him dating Giselle which was established in a throwaway line from Boog and not Ian or Giselle, he doesn't seen to have much interest in any female on screen. He did seem to take their breakup really well.

The franchise shares the same universe as Madagascar
Both movies are a world of nearly normal animals and some of them even have similar boxy designs to each other.

Scared Silly takes place between the events of Open Season 1 and 2.
It explains why none of the sequel characters like Fifi, Roger, Giselle and Elliot's offspring, etc. appear and why Mr. Weenie is still with the forest animals even though he decided to go back with his owners at the end of the second movie.
