Video Game / VS Sketchy

Go To

V.S. Sketchy is a mod for the game, Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod created by Xeneth. The mod focuses on a drawing named Sketchy who draws a replica of the Girlfriend. The Boyfriend catches this and confronts him, which frightens Sketchy because Boyfriend is not even supposed to be there.

This mod eventually got a remake titled Vs. Sketchy REDRAWN which upgrades Sketchy's appearance and alters the plot a bit. While the Girlfriend is still drawn by Sketchy, the Boyfriend is established as being drawn in by the same person that drew Sketchy, much to the latter’s frustration. This new Sketchy mod was done by Jason the Art Kid with approval from Xeneth.

Song List:

  1. Line Art
  2. Sketched Out
  3. Rip And Tear

Tropes in the original

  • Adaptational Villainy: The Boyfriend essentially invades Sketchy’s drawing and pesters him into battle while Sketchy makes it clear that the Boyfriend's presence is literally killing him, thus making the Boyfriend fall into this.
  • And I Must Scream: By the third song, Sketchy is falling apart and begging for Boyfriend to leave before he dies a slow and painful death.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The Boyfriend confronts Sketchy and pesters him as his presence slowly harms Sketchy, all because he drew a copy of his girlfriend.

Tropes in the remake

  • Adaptational Heroism: The Boyfriend, oddly enough. Unlike the original, where he torments Sketchy to death over drawing Girlfriend, he just happily plays around while talking with Girlfriend, and instead of invading Sketchy’s notepad he’s drawn by the same person who drew Sketchy. On the other hand...
  • Adaptational Villainy: Sketchy goes from being a poor victim desperately asking Boyfriend to leave to a narcissistic Control Freak angrily demanding Boyfriend to get out and stop doodling. Unlike the original, where Boyfriend's presence slowly kills Sketchy, the remake has it where Sketchy instead has a Villainous Breakdown and threatens to erase Boyfriend and Girlfriend all while tearing the page.
  • Body Horror: At the end of the second song, Sketchy, in a fit of frustration, tears off the top of his head to reveal what are essentially his innards.
  • Control Freak: Unlike the original where Sketchy could only live with his own drawing while the presence of anything else will kill him, here he wants full control of what is drawn on the paper he is on and does not appreciate when somebody else draws on it. Even his own creator.
  • Mic Drop: Boyfriend does this when he loses, as usual. Sketchy does this too, at the end of the second song, shortly before tearing off the top of his head.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Villainous Breakdown aside, Boyfriend's presence does not physically harm Sketchy in any way here, unlike in the original mod.
  • Turns Red: The final song aside, halfway through the second song Sketchy gets angry and starts screaming long strings of notes. His animations even change from happily waving his arms around to flailing them in a rage, and his smile changes to a grimace.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Occurs in "Rip And Tear", where Sketchy tears off the top of his head.
