"Play with me?"

Directed by AxeLmao and created for Gamebanana's Retro Jam, RIFUNK is a mod for Friday Night Funkin' that crosses over with SEGA's Ristar.

This mod contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Friendly Rival: Ristar never shows any ill will towards Boyfriend, genuinely enjoying the time they spend together.
  • Harder Than Hard: Upon beating the main week, the "Insane" difficulty will be unlocked, despite it actually being unlocked from the start and just stated as such to draw attention to it, featuring more difficult charting (to the point of three notes at a time), faster scroll speeds and only 2 health points. And worse, Ristar is constantly moving throughout the songs, so you can't predict what's coming next.
  • Hit Points: In contrast to regular Friday Night Funkin', the HP bar is adapted out in favour of the HP system used in Ristar's game. Boyfriend and Ristar can each take up to four hits before falling victim to a Game Over, and can replenish this by hitting star pieces in the chart and stacking them up to five.
  • Mook: A few of the Orblets seen in Planet Flora in the base game show up during "Interstellar" to give Boyfriend some trouble. Thankfully, Boyfriend can get rid of them by attacking when they get too close.
  • Promoted to Playable: While being the main opponent of the mod's main week, Ristar becomes playable in "Starfruit", singing it out against the blue blur himself.
