this is actually pain
— A Discord message on the Story Mode menu describing Week 2... of 7

FNF: Hortas Edition is a Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod based around Vs. Dave and Bambi created by Hortas (who has since left the internet and deleted his YouTube account). It compiles the many, many fantracks created by Hortas into a single mod with seven main weeks, several freeplay songs, dozens of characters, and a whole lot of spam.

The mod's V2 can be downloaded on GameJolt here, and the cancelled V3 build can be downloaded on GameBanana here.

  • Animate Inanimate Object: Boxy is, true to his name, a sentient cardboard box.
  • Arc Villain: Hortas and Morpheus are both the only opponents through the entirety of their respective weeks, and the only other times either of them appear are in one of the mod's Marathon Levels.
  • Author Avatar: Hortas, the creator and primary composer of the mod, appears in Week 4 as his Expunged-esque persona. Boxy, a co-director for V3, also appears in the cancelled build in the song "Unboxed".
  • Big Bad Ensemble: As you could probably tell from the song list above, there are a lot of different opponents in this mod, most of whom only show up in a handful of songs each.
  • The Cameo: Matt from Wii Funkin appears in the song "Sport Chaos".
  • Eldritch Abomination: Almost all of the mod's opponents are Expunged-like in some way, usually being massive 3D entities with unspecified powers. R'lyehian easily takes the cake, however, with its bizzare body composed almost entirely of rings and even being named after Lovecraft's fictional language from the Cthulhu mythos.
  • Excuse Plot: The V3 cancelled built is very loosely tied together by a plot of various god-like 3D entities appearing before Boyfriend to challenge him, but little is done to make it make sense and it's mostly just a way to have Boyfriend fighting Hortas' roster of Eldritch Abominations.
  • Expy: Brando is a pretty clear take on Bandu, having a very similar design, the same voice, and even using a recolored Bandu icon in V2.
  • Fake Difficulty: The mod's challenge comes primarily from its insanely spammy, unpolished charting that's incredibly difficult to just keep up with, much less do reasonably well in.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Hjoim is a deadly antagonist whose eyes are constantly glowing.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Conbi, the antagonist of "Delirium", returns in all of the mod's Marathon Levels as the final opponent, taking a different stronger form each time.
  • Light Is Not Good:
    • Holy Expunged may be angelic in appearance, but it is still Expunged in nature.
    • Cyrill's name translates to 'light', and he's the brightest of the four demigods in Week 5, but he's just as antagonistic as the other three.
  • Marathon Level: There are three of these featured in the mod - the 11-minute "Demiurge", the 10-minute "Providence", and the 17-minute hidden song "Nemesis".
  • More Teeth than the Osmond Family: It can be tough to see past the static effect, but Manbi's form in "Clamorous" has a ring of many sharp yellow teeth on its 'face'.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: Theoretical Expunged has 6 arms and is, going by the song's FLP, its 'final form'.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Brando's character is primarily based on a crippling addiction to '3D Bull', with his idle animation having him surrounded by a ring of cans and jittering erratically. According to Word of God, he hasn't slept in three weeks and regularly drinks five times the survivable limit.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: "Blood" isn't exactly the cuddliest of names for a reaper-esque demigod.
  • Patter Song: More than any other Vs. Dave and Bambi fan-mod, Hortas Edition specializes in spamtracks. Every song in the mod in spammy to the point of being humanly impossible to FC, in fact.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Expunged's form in "Theoretical" has a primarily purple color scheme.
