Hey. I'm Pike. I'm a poncey deviant personality who often plays wizards or technicians in videogames and tries to write myself as both in original fic. I play somewhat more robust wizards (read: bard) when I play D&D. I am a geek, and I like to research things endlessly because I never know when the knowledge might come in handy. I get nerdsniped regularly by xkcd. In middle school the science curriculum I had was mostly physics, and I went to summer classes about physics for a few years too. I had one intro to biology class and I'm in chemistry class, but I'm still a die-hard physics nerd.

I argue things for the sake of arguing, and I'm good at it. I'd like to consider myself a gracious loser, but we all know losing's not fun. I can usually find myself placated by promise of a rematch. By all means, call me out on my BS, as well, but unless you actually have on hand the real goods and facts, it's not likely to stick.

I'm experimenting with the whole "having friends" thing, and so far I think it's going well. My first forays into this experiment were failures because I was Doing It Wrong, but these new relationships seem viable.

  • Sixth Ranger: Chitin Iohmair of Crustacea randomly shows up after the first arc and joins the team as a Token Evil Teammate, due to his chaotic neutral behavior contrasting nicely with the Lawful Good and Chaotic Good alignments of two of the other main characters. Him being from a different culture doesn't help.
  • Token Evil Teammate: There are times when Chitin wants to prove that he's trustworthy to the group. Then there's the rest of the time, where his old society's Flanderized traditions and prejudices rule his decision making. He eventually gets better. Ish.
  • Those Two Guys: When Chitin shows up as the sixth ranger after the first arc in the D&D campaign, he often gets paired with Tala Ahi Tenari for camp chores, reconnaissance, shopping, hunting.... the original reason was because he didn't know Common that well and Talahi was the only one who knew Elven. The reason later became that they were dating, and then got married.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Why is Chitin a Sixth Ranger? Because Pike was the DM first. Since this particular group plays D&D round robin style, that means that characters may disappear for entire arcs with little more than a Hand Wave, or the characters' reaction to said disappearance could be driving the next arc.
  • The Dragon: Lord Nicholas to the Empress
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: the extent of Lord Nicholas' devotion to his empress quite simply knows no limits. It helps that she has told him that everything they do is For the Greater Good and the economy has indeed improved since they took over.
