Trivia / Two-Faced Woman

  • Creator Backlash:
    • Garbo herself later disowned the movie, according to many reports after her death, calling it her "[career's] grave". There were also reports of her dreading certain scenes during filming, such as Karin's swimming scene and Katherine's dance scene.
    • Garbo's costume designer Mr Adrian (who had designed many of gowns in other films) hated the movie too, agreeing with the critics' negative responses. He left MGM along with Garbo, saying that "the glamor had left" with her.
  • Creator Killer: It was theorised that this film was the reason Greta Garbo's film career dissolved. A lot of critics loathed at how this movie "Americanized" Garbo as the girl-next-door, instead of the mysterious attractive Swede that she always was in movies, even though Two-Faced Woman was one of the biggest hits of the year. Coincidentally, her MGM contract was terminated after the movie was made.
  • Executive Meddling: This movie was briefly stopped from release by The Hays Code due to its portrayal of Larry being inches away from cheating on Karin with her disguise Katherine. This led to some scenes being re-filmed (much to George Cukor's annoyance, who reportedly refused to watch said scenes being filmed) in order to make it clear that Larry technically wouldn't cheat on Karin.
  • This was the second comedy film that Garbo had appeared in. Her first was Ninotchka in 1939, which also starred Melyvn Douglas.
