- Divided for Publication: Despite being initially planned as a single release, the first major entry became a two-part work owing to time constraints and complications during production, which led to the second volume incorporating some things that weren't in the original plan.
- Fan Translation: A number of these have emerged in recent years, mainly in the form of subtitled longplays:
- aRdW's translation of Saikai, Tansaku-hen and Kyūmei-hen.
- Tara A. Devlin's partial fandub of the original duology (up to Kyūmei-hen chapter 3)
- Franchise Ownership Acquisition: While the original duology and Moonlight Syndrome were developed and published by Human Entertainment, the company's closure in 2000 caused the series ownership to pass on to Spike Chunsoft, who became responsible for future sequels. Because Spike's Vaill subsidiary, which was put in charge of the series, was largely staffed by former HUMAN members, this also served as a form of Channel Hop.
- No Export for You: As of late 2023, 27 years from the series' debut, not a single instalment has received an official localization. Reportedly, Suda51 was partly to blame for this, expressing concerns that foreign audiences would not understand the series and being generally uninterested in revisiting the original games due to his lack of creative input in them.
- Troubled Production: What was originally planned as one game was instead released as a duology due to development proceeding slower than expected and the original director abandoning the project due to scheduling conflicts, necessitating a replacement to step in.
