  • Acting for Two: The actor who plays Alan's dad is the same man who plays the judge who sentences him to death. You can actually see him smiling, with the implication that it's the same person.
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget: £3,500,000. Gross: £1,860,002.
  • Creator Killer: Patrick's actor, Bruce Cook, has not been in anything after starring in this movie. Except for two other movies, but only as minor roles. He most likely retired since the last film he was in was back in 2003.
  • Completely Different Title:
    • In French, this movie is called Plein Gaz (idiomatically Pull Power, literally Full Gas).
    • Known in Quebec as L'incroyable histoire de Patrick Smash (The Incredible Story of Patrick Smash)
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: According to an interview he gave on The Tonight Show, Paul Giamatti considers this film to be one of the highlights of his career.
  • Direct to Video: Did so badly in the UK that it went for a straight to video release in the US.
  • Fake American: Besides Paul Giamatti and Ned Beatty, all the Americans are played by Brits.
  • Star-Derailing Role: Besides his Star-Making Role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter franchise, this film seemed to be one for Rupert Grint, whose film career is notable for how NOT notable it's been since this film, with barely anyone knowing anything he's been in since.
  • Working Title: The Boy Who Dealt It.
  • Write What You Know: The scene where all the students strip Patrick down to his vest and underpants is based on what happened to Writer Phil Hughes when he was a boy.
