• Acting for Two: Along with their main roles, David Collins and Shane Dundas play a variety of imaginary characters. David Collins voices Pointy and Bob the Blanket, and Shane Dundas voices Knuckles and Fido the Fly (which is very obvious, as you can clearly see his mouth move).
• Actor Allusion: The entire concept of the Remote is a direct allusion to one of The Umbilical Brothers' comedy shows SpeedMouse which was aimed at adults.
• The Danza: David Collins and Shane Dundas share the first names of their respective characters.
• Descended Creator: The Umbilical Brothers are also two of the show's three co-creators.
• Executive Meddling: According to the creators' YouTube channel, Nickelodeon executives were constantly telling them to remove dialogue humor and any "dangerous imitable" behaviors. While they were able to get away with some adult references, a lot of it was edited out.
  • The brothers' couch was specifically reinforced so they could jump on it. However, Nickelodeon told them that they couldn't jump on the couch at all, because: "if a mother saw it and her child did that and got injured, she would sue Nickelodeon."
• Periphery Demographic: A perfect example of this. The show's biggest supporters were adults who loved the surreal humor.
• Screwed by the Network: Nickelodeon barely advertised the show, rushed to air all of its episodes on Noggin with very rare reruns afterward late at night, and then cancelled it prematurely after just one season. In 2007, the creators announced on their website: "We have received word from Nickelodeon/Noggin USA that they don't want to do a second season. After all of the positive feedback we've received from around the world, and the show's critical success, this decision is somewhat mystifying."
• What Could Have Been: In 2010, the creators finished a script for The Upside Down Movie, a special episode that would finally act as a proper conclusion to the show. Nickelodeon Australia funded the script development, but the crew needed financial support from outside investors to start filming, which never happened. David Collins even started an online petition (here) to demonstrate public interest in the movie, but it didn't gain enough support and the project has been in limbo ever since. They did acknowledge the script in their TikTok, however.
• Word of God: The Umbilical Brothers have stated on Facebook that, in the show's universe, the story doesn't end with "Mini Golf" (the last produced episode) but with The Upside Down Movie.
