• Development Hell: Steven Spielberg became interested in adapting the book into a feature film as soon as he read it, even getting Universal Pictures to buy him the adaptation rights with no expiration date (he eventually decided to just produce). In the late 2000s-early 2010s, his company, Amblin Entertainment, tried to develop it as a miniseries for TNT, but it wasn't picked up by the network. In 2019, it was finally announced that a series would be made, with Netflix distributing. This showrunner will be Curtis Gwinn, a writer and producer on Stranger Things, Narcos and The Leftovers, and the series will be executive produced by Stranger Things' creators, the Duffer Brothers, through their company Upside Down Productions.
