Trivia / The Petrified Forest

• The Danza: Slim is played in the film by Slim Thompson.
• Star-Making Role: This was Humphrey Bogart's breakout role. He'd made an earlier attempt at a film career but was forced back to Broadway making a better career in theater. When this play was picked to be filmed, Leslie Howard had to fight to keep Bogart for the film, which helped him make it back to Hollywood (typecast as gangsters until an even bigger break with High Sierra and The Maltese Falcon).
  • Bogart was forever grateful to Howard for this, and was devastated when his friend was killed during World War II. Bogart would name his daughter Leslie in his honor.
• What Could Have Been: Edward G. Robinson was originally considered for Duke Mantee.
