• California Doubling: Cal State University, Northridge (not far from the studio where the show was shot) was used for the campus exterior shots, the lecture hall scenes, and Pam's art exhibit. Art students at the school also created Pam's artwork.
• Real Life Writes the Plot: The In-Universe explanation for why Michael moved Ryan to the annex next to Kelly and Toby was Cool and Unusual Punishment for the guest speaker fiasco. The Real Life reason was that, since B.J. Novak, Mindy Kaling and Paul Lieberstein were all full-time writers as well as cast members, having their characters together in the annex allowed them to be able to slip away from the main set to work on scripts, while still being present in case they were needed in a scene.
• What Could Have Been: Originally, one of Pam's watercolor paintings was supposed to be a depiction of a church. Joss Whedon had it replaced with the painting of the stapler because he felt Pam's art should be more mundane.
