• Ability over Appearance: The show was originally about a white girl named Shelby Wink; however, Irene Ng impressed them enough to rewrite the character as Asian.
• California Doubling: The show's fourth season is set in Boston, Massachusetts, but the filming location was actually in Montreal, Canada.
• Celebrity Voice Actor: In the Japanese dub, Shelby Woo was voiced by theater actress Madoka Takeda.
• Dawson Casting: Irene Ng was 21 years old at the start of the first season and 24 at the end of the last when playing the teenage Shelby Woo.
• Late Export for You: The show didn't reach Japan until 1999 when it premiered on NHK Educational Television.
• Series Hiatus: Season 3 was planned to have 13 episodes, but production was aborted after eight had been completed. A fourth season consisting of 20 episodes was later taped in Montreal.
• Troubled Production: Production at Nickelodeon Studios, according to creator and executive producer Alan Goodman, was a nightmare. The Orlando weather never cooperated with daily thunderstorms making shooting conditions harsher that it had to be. Costs rose dramatically when the second season switched from videotape to film, cutting the third season short when an IATSE strike targeted the show. CINAR then took over as co-producer and moved production to Montreal.
