• Creator Backlash: Wes Craven has disowned movie for being a poorly made cash-in.
• Money, Dear Boy: Wes Craven on the film: "I'm sorry for The Hills Have Eyes 2. I was broke, and really needed the work. I would have made Godzilla Goes to Paris."
• Troubled Production: Wes Craven began shooting the film after principal photography on A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) was unexpectedly delayed. He filmed approximately two-thirds of the script before the producers pulled the plug due to budgetary concerns. After Nightmare proved a box office success, the studio convinced Craven to finish the film on a low-budget, using only the footage that had already been shot and padding out the rest of the runtime with clips of the first film.
