Trivia / The Callisto Protocol

Go To

  • Creator-Driven Successor: The game shares developers who worked on Dead Space and features similarities in gameplay and premise:
    • Both focus on gunplay and violent, gory combat.
    • Both feature mutated monsters who give the player a gruesome death if they’re defeated.
    • Both have a Diegetic Interface where the player’s health bar is displayed on their back.
  • Dueling Games: With Dead Space (Remake). The Callisto Protocol is a Spiritual Successor to Dead Space by Glen Schofield, while the remake is being developed by EA Motive - with both games releasing in back-to-back months.
    • On another note, the lesser known independent Steam game Negative Atmosphere, made by Sunscorched Studios.
  • No Port For You: The console versions will not be released in Japan due to a refusal of classification by Japanese rating board CERO. This does not affect the PC version due to CERO not regulating PC games even in Japan's own DL-Site, and the PC/Steam version has complete Japanese language text, interface, and audio support.
  • Orphaned Reference: It seems the game's story was divorced from PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds relatively late in development, as the Ancient Conspiracy in Callisto have the exact same logo, motto, M.O., and ultimate goal as the one from PUBG, and the Warden's logic of deliberately unleashing the epidemic in the prison to create a free-for-all in which survival of the fittest evolution can play out makes way more sense as a PUBG match, as attempting to find a epidemic-resistant individual by creating an uncontrolled outbreak, his stated goal, is a massive case of having no real understanding of actual biology. References are also made to an earlier outbreak on Earth at a place called Paramo, which is a PUBG map.
  • What Could Have Been: The game, due to sharing a publisher, was meant to be a Distant Sequel to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, but due to the writer's wish that the game be its own story, they are independent of each other.
