• Science Marches On: At one point the book says Cthulhu has awakened after vigintillions of years. A vigintillion is either 10^63 or 10^120. As the book came out before the Big Bang theory was proposed, such a long time wasn't impossible. There is still some Artistic License, in that it was already known that Earth was "only" a few billion years old, yet it's implied he spend his whole time sleeping there.
