Trivia / Styx

Go To

  • Black Sheep Hit: Styx has two: "Babe", an electric piano-based soft rock ballad originally recorded by Dennis as a birthday present for his wife, and "Mr. Roboto", a synth-driven song with less guitars than the band's usual output.
  • Colbert Bump:
  • Creator Backlash:
    • The band hated how The Serpent is Rising turned out. Nothing from the album has been played live in nearly thirty years.
    • They don't look fondly upon Kilroy Was Here, seeing how the album basically was only Dennis DeYoung's baby and tore up the band from the inside-out. Like The Serpent is Rising, they no longer play any Kilroy Was Here songs live. Or at least they didn't until finally adding "Mr. Roboto" to their set list in 2018.

    • Tommy Shaw hated "Friendly Advice" (a dance-pop song that was track 4, side 1 from his 1985 solo album What If...) so much he had it relegated to closing the album on authorized CD reissues.
  • Creator Killer: Kilroy Was Here
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Not necessarily played straight, but, damn, does JY sound like a woman when he's doing backing vocals! Most evident in "Too Much Time on My Hands".
  • The Pete Best: John Curulewski for Tommy Shaw.
  • Similarly Named Works:
    • "Show Me the Way" is not the same song done by Peter Frampton. Coincidentally, Styx and Frampton were both on A&M Records.
    • "Snowblind" is not the same song by Steppenwolf or the one by Black Sabbath. Ironically considering the Black Sabbath example, Styx's "Snowblind" got accusations of promoting devil worshipping.
