Trivia / Puyo Puyo~n

Go To

  • Creator Killer: This game's lackluster reception and sales killed any chance of Compile ever being able to buy back the Puyo Puyo franchise from Sega, leading to the company going bankrupt and its IPs getting spread around to various other companies. This in turn led to the Screwed by the Lawyers situation currently plaguing the Madou Monogatari franchise. This would also lead to Sega moving development of the Puyo Puyo series in-house, with Sonic Team taking over development duties beginning with Puyo Pop (2001).
  • Dueling Works: Magical Drop F has so many similarities to Puyo Puyo~n that you would be forgiven for assuming that Data East built their game based on a preview of Yon. They are both the fourth mainline entries in their respective series, released exclusively for consoles in 1999 after the previous three entries were arcade games, largely do away with Super-Deformed art, contain much slower-paced gameplay, and experiment with Limit Breaks.
  • Fan Translation: The Dreamcast version is one of many Puyo Puyo games to receive an English patch by Precise Museum.
