Trivia / Need for Speed: Undercover

Go To

  • Creator Killer: Undercover would end up becoming the beginning of the end for EA Black Box. The game was an attempt to return to the Most Wanted (2005) and Carbon model of focusing on illegal street racing after ProStreet received complaints for ditching it, but it ended up being trashed by critics for its bad frame rate, cheesy storyline, and for being not as good as Rockstar Games' Midnight Club: Los Angeles and EA's other arcade-style racing game from 2008, Burnout Paradise, resulting in Black Box's reputation becoming pretty much sullied and marking the end of its hegemony over the series. EA as a result not only gave the license to Slightly Mad Studios to revert back to a ProStreet-style game with Shift, but would also revert back to the classic era by resurrecting the Hot Pursuit sub-series with Criterion's 2010 Hot Pursuit. EA Black Box would later attempt to redeem themselves after losing control over the series post-Undercover with The Run, but with less than stellar reviews, it was not the case, and after being renamed to Quicklime Games in 2012, it was shut down in April 2013.
  • Dummied Out: The game would've featured the Subaru Impreza WRX STI; a finished model was in the game but not implemented in the released, unmodified game.
  • Two Voices, One Character: While Rose Largo is played in the game's live-action cutscenes by Heather Fox, in her voice messages during races she's voiced by Dawn Olivieri.
  • Working Title: Need for Speed: The Chase.
