• Cast the Expert: In the close shot it gets obvious which actors could actually play their role's instruments beforehand. Dermot Mulroney, who guests as a womanizing cellist occasionally, is actually an accomplished cellist in real life.
• Playing Against Type: Malcolm McDowell must have been resigned to playing villains for the rest of his life. Jerk with a Heart of Gold Thomas Pembridge is the best role he's had since the early 70s.
