- Friday Night Death Slot: Despite having this (and no advertising), it actually did very well in the ratings, thanks in no small part to Ellen DeGeneres promoting it on her show.
- One-Episode Wonder: The pilot episode was as far as this series got before NBC cancelled it.
- Screwed by the Network: Given no advertising, the aforementioned Friday Night Death Slot, yet managed to actually do well in the ratings, but was still not picked up by NBC.
- What Could Have Been: If the series had been picked up, Bryan Fuller had a lot of ideas for the show, including:
- Meeting members of the extended family, including Uncle Leslie (whom Grandpa mentioned in the pilot).
- There would have been a (presumably) Whole Episode Flashback where we went back in time to see how Grandpa and Lily were involved in the events of The Phantom of the Opera.
- Further development of Lily's sister and their relationship, including how Lily came to adopt Marilyn.
- According to a preview in Entertainment Weekly, there were plans for relatives based on the Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Invisible Man to appear had the show been picked up as a series.
