Trivia / Magic Railroad Parody

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Co-Writer/Director/Cinematographer/Editor Nicky Dovydaitus plays both Junior/The Narrator and the teenager Junior interacts with at the end of the film, as well as voicing Boris the Snow-Machine in the film's second sequel, The Magic Christmas Parody.
    • Co-Writer/Art Director/Producer/Animation Supervisor Jacob Jarrett plays Patch and provides the voice of the White Rabbit.
    • Co-Writer/Producer/Assistant Editor Robert Magee plays both Mr. Conductor (the Alec Baldwin version) and his father in the 1969 scenes (based on the Ringo Starr version).
    • Eugene Dovydaitus, Nicky's father, plays P.T. Boomer and provides the voice of the documentary announcer at the very beginning of the film, the latter uncredited, as well as the voice of Salty in The Magic Christmas Parody
    • Laura Downs plays Lily's Mom and provides the voice of Annie as well as additional voices.
    • Annie C. voices both Caroline and Lady Hatt.
    • Wylie Queenan voices Percy, James' Driver, and an angry freight car
    • Will Stark voices Diesel 10, Sir Topham Hatt, and the Troublesome Trucks.
    • Nick Van Bruggen voices Henry, as well as Cranky the Crane in a couple deleted scenes.
    • Matt Michaud voices Dodge in the original film and its two mini-special sequels, as well as physically playing Matt Jones in the first sequel, The Magic Halloween Parody.
    • Matthew Twillman voices George the Steamroller in both the original film and The Magic Christmas Parody, in addition to voicing Duncan in the latter.
  • Copiously Credited Creator: Beside Dovydaitus, Magee, and Jarrett, their co-writer, Matt Michaud, in addition to voicing Dodge (and playing Matt Jones in The Magic Halloween Parody), also served as the casting director.
  • Descended Creator: Dovydaitus, Magee, Michaud, and Jarrett all had production duties in addition to their acting duties.
  • Fake Shemp: Edward's one line in The Magic Halloween Parody (Where do you think you're going?) was an archival recording of his voice actor, Mel Shiri, from a deleted scene in the film.
  • In Memoriam: The extended assembly cut of the film was dedicated to the memory of Burnett's actor and Nicky's grandfather, Kestutis Povilauskas, who had recently passed away.
  • Real-Life Relative: Eugene Dovydaitus (P.T. Boomer), Zoe Rose (Lily Stone), and Kestutis Povilauskas (Burnett Stone) are Nicky Dovydaitus' father, sister, and grandfather, respectively.
  • Recycled Set: In addition to going to the Isle of Man and filming as many locations from the original movie as possible, one of the workers at the train station let the crew film inside the shed that was used for Burnett's work cave.
  • Role Reprise: Despite being retired from acting, Brian O'Connor himself returned as Schemer for this parody in The Stinger.
  • What Could Have Been: Like the original film it's based on, many scenes were filmed, but were ultimately cut out. Though instead of Executive Meddling, most were cut for time, as Dovydaitis wanted to keep the film under three hours. The scenes were restored come the Extended Assembly Cut however.
    • Nearly half an hour of scenes with P.T. Boomer were shot, but were removed because they didn't add anything to the film. This decision was made around the time the original film's director's cut was leaked, where this was also a flaw, and they didn't want to inadvertently repeat it.
    • There were scenes with Lily and Burnett having an awkward dinner, and a deleted scene where Mr. Conductor eats vegetables from the Rabbit's garden to get back at him for filling the "BoCo Puffs" cereal box with his shit, which was already redundant because of the aforementioned scene with the cereal boxes.
    • There was going to be a scene near the beginning of the young Burnett Stone getting reprimanded by his teacher for not paying attention in class, and showing very little interest in school. This scene was cut because the film had already established this, making the scene redundant. At one point, the date is shown as 1960, which would have been a continuity error as they changed the date to 1969 after shooting the scene.
    • Mutt was going to be a character in the film, where he'd be played by a Maltese, but his scenes were cut for time, and they didn't really add much anyway.
    • There was a scene of Gordon chatting to Percy before the Knapford at Night scene, an extended scene of Ringo Conductor and Young Burnett talking about Lady, a re-creation of the coal hopper scene in the original film, an extended version of the "Really Useful Engine" musical number without cuts to the Diesel 10 and Mr. Conductor viaduct scene, and a scene with Gordon, Henry, and Edward at Tidmouth Sheds near the end. These were all cut for time as well.
    • Cranky the Crane was also supposed to be in the film, voiced by Nick Van Bruggen, who also voiced Henry, but they cut his scene, which was based off Toby and Percy's chat at the scrapyards that Splatter and Dodge overhear in the original film's first draft, after Dovydaitus realized that Cranky could just be name-dropped instead.
    • Patch's character arc was originally going to end on him wandering off and reacting to things on Sodor before getting scared by the tumbleweed, and jumping into the magic buffers out of fear. Initially, only the tumbleweed part was going to be removed for time once again, but the joke didn't work after that, so a new conclusion was written instead.
    • There was planned to be a third sequel to the film, The Magic Easter Parody, wherein Thomas, Splatter, Dodge, and Rusty go to Mr. Jolly's Chocolate Factory, where strange things would happen. Dovydaitus has stated that although he loved the script he, Magee, Michaud, and Jarrett wrote, it was too ambitious because they didn't have enough large spaces, enough time, or enough money to build the large sets of the interior of the chocolate factory, film the special, and get it out in time for Easter, coupled with him thinking he could do all he could with the series following the film and two mini-specials. It was small wonder what happened next: The sequel was quietly canceled.
