- Troubled Production: The director made the movie to his vision, and had a shouting match with Stan Winston over the look of the dive suits that the crew compared to watching your parents fight. The hundred-pound dive suits were time-consuming to don, so actors spent whole days stuck in them, unable to even feed themselves at meal breaks; Hector Elizondo brushed with death when he was nearly crushed inside one. During filming of the climax, the creature's prop soaked up so much water that it rusted the rods, making it incredibly heavy and too stiff to really move.
