• Creator's Oddball: He made his name as a writer of thrillers like Eye of the Needle and The Key to Rebecca. Then he branched out into writing historical epics like The Pillars of the Earth, for which he is now much better known (in the USA, at any rate).
• Referenced by...: Margaret Thatcher (as played by Meryl Streep) can be seen reading a copy of Eye of the Needle in The Iron Lady. Which is rather ironic, given that Follett has long been a supporter of the Labour Party.
