Trivia / Ghostbusters (IDW Comics)

Go To

  • Approval of God: Artist Dan Schoening met Dan Aykroyd in 2014. Aykroyd apparently likes what he's read of the comics.
  • Development Gag:
    • The guide who helps Ray through his dreams bears a resemblance to John Belushi (specifically, in The Blues Brothers), who would have played Venkman in the films had it not been for his untimely death.
    • The rival ghost removal team is called the "Ghost Smashers", the original name for the film.
    • When fighting Tiamat in Volume 2 Issue #19, Gozer transforms into a one-horned skeletal demon based on early concept art for its true form.
    • In the Transformers crossover, ghost Megatron's One-Winged Angel form is his character design from the cancelled video game Transformers Universe.
  • Fridge Brilliance: In the second crossover with the Ninja Turtles, Peter and Michelangelo end up in an Alternate Universe populated by Funny Animals — including turtle Ghostbusters. They are apparently named after the actors who played their counterparts in the original films and The Real Ghostbusters. Ray's counterpart's last name being the only one mentioned makes sense, as Peter's and Winston's voice actors changed over the course of the series, whereas Ray's and Egon's did not. Narrative flow aside, only using first names for the others kept the writers from having to choose which voice actors' last names to use.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: IDW lost the Ghostbusters license in 2021 and all their books left print and were removed from digital store shelves. Copies of the collected "Mass Hysteria" volume is especially expensive on the secondhand market.
  • Recycled Script: "Ghost Smashers" is recycled from the The Real Ghostbusters episode "Robo-Buster". In both, someone steals plans of the Ghostbusters' tech, creates amplified versions of it that allegedly destroys ghosts instead of trapping them, which results in the residual PK energy forming into a monstrous amalgamation.
