Trivia / Gamera the Brave

  • Bad Export for You: Not as bad as other examples, but still noticeable. The Media Blasters Blu-ray from 2013 suffers this if only for the English dub track having major synchronization issues, making the more emotional scenes feel unintentionally silly because of it. Made even more jarring is that they released the film on DVD back in 2008 and the audio syncing was just fine. This was fixed in Arrow Video's 2020 Gamera Blu-ray box set (which calls out Media Blasters' error in its liner notes book).
  • Fan Edit: Gamera: the Brave - Retro Edition, helped to improve the original movie by adding in new credits that celebrated the Heisei trilogy the film is a spiritual sequel to and most important, changed some sound design to give the heroic turtle kaiju back his iconic roar instead of the generic monster noises he had in the original film.
  • Franchise Killer: Gamera hasn't had a movie in well over a decade since this movie's failure. Thankfully, the news of the new anime project GAMERA -Rebirth- finally changed this, though it's still quite notable the franchise was dormant for the entirety of the 2010's before this was announced.
  • Genre-Killer: Initially, Gamera The Brave was well received critically and to this day, it's looked back upon fondly by the fanbase. However, it tanked at the box office due to an already decreasing interest in kaiju films reaching its apex. Along with the failure of Godzilla: Final Wars two years prior it was seen as the final death knell for the giant monster genre until it was fully revitalized by Godzilla (2014).
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: For a few years, it was hard to come by due to the Media Blasters release going out of print and being the only Gamera movie not to be licensed by Mill Creek. It would be rescued in 2020 when Arrow Video gained the license.
