  • Awesome, Dear Boy: ProJared stated that the reason why he agreed to guest star in the pilot, despite stating his opinion that the show is quite bad, was that you don't live a very interesting life by saying "no" all of the time, and the opportunity to simply visit the set of a TV series and see what a day in that business is like was too interesting to pass up.
  • Defictionalization: One of the major "gimmicks" is all of the games that appear in the show will be playable on Nickelodeon's website. Some of them, like Sky Whale, are available also as actual game apps for smartphones.
  • Dueling Shows: With Disney XD's Gamer's Guide to Pretty Much Everything. Gamer's Guide is to professional gaming as Game Shakers is to mobile game development.
    • It also has a lot of similarities to the premise of Netflix's Richie Rich, in that both shows revolve around characters that unintentionally become rich from developing unexpectedly popular products.
  • Screwed by the Network: Despite being created by network favorite, Dan Schneider, Nickelodeon has screwed with this show.
    • There were very few reruns of the series in 2017, and many repeats were scheduled to air but were pulled at the last minute by the network. At that point the only place to watch reruns were on sister networks TeenNick and Nicktoons.
    • In January 2018, reruns of the series were pulled from Nicktoons and TeenNick, leaving the show to no reruns at all.
    • Nickelodeon is airing the third season on Sunday nights, and the ratings have suffered from it.
    • And now that Dan Schneider himself has left Nickelodeon, it's been confirmed that the show will end entirely.
