- Box Office Bomb: Earned a modest $615,000 against a budget of $23 million. These statistics do not take Blu-Ray, streaming and other VOD services into consideration, though.
- California Doubling: Played with. The bulk of the story is set in San Juan, where the movie was actually shot. However, Cardillo's flashback scenes (supposedly set in New York City) were also shot on-location in Puerto Rico.
- Fake Nationality: Played straight with Puerto Rican Jess Peña, who is played by Peruvian Stephanie Cayo. Averted with John The Baptist, who is played by David Zayas, a native to Puerto Rico.
- Real-Life Relative: Not unusual to director Michael Polish, some roles in the movie are played by his family members:
- Troy is played by Kate Bosworth, who is married to director Michael Polish.
- Cardillo's girlfriend in the flashback scenes is played by Jasper Polish, the daughter of director Michael Polish - and thus, the stepdaughter of Kate Bosworth. So technically, at the end of the movie, Hirsch's character asks out his girlfriend's step-mother.
- What Could Have Been: Ray's role was originally intended for Bruce Willis. Mel Gibson jumped in once the former left production.
