  • Cut Song: Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne recorded a rendition of "Un Dì, Felice, Eterea" from La Traviata for the film's end credits, only for it to be turned down; Byrne would ultimately feature it as the penultimate track to his 2004 solo album Grown Backwards.
  • Fake Nationality: The Nigerian Okwe and Chinese Guo Yi are both played by British actors, though Ejiofor is Nigerian-British and Wong Chinese-British. The Turkish Senay is played by the French Audrey Tautou, and the Russian Ivan by the Croatian-born Dane Zlatko Buric. In story, acquiring a Fake Nationality becomes a major goal of both Okwe and Senay, as well as many other immigrants in their situation. Both of them succeed.
  • Fake Russian: Croatian-born Zlatko Buric as Ivan.
  • Playing Against Type: It's hard to believe now that he's also well-known for playing a psychopathic fascist officer in Pan's Labyrinth, but prior to this movie Sergi Lopez was known mostly for light comic roles.
