Trivia / Crayon Pop

Go To

  • Breakthrough Hit - "Bar Bar Bar"
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: It shows up occasionally (and helps to tell the identical twins apart when it does). For the record:
    • Choa: Red
    • Gummi: Blue
    • Soyul: Yellow
    • Ellin: Pink
    • Way: Orange
  • Creator Backlash: Very little video/photo evidence exists from their days as Hurricane Pop, mostly because Chrome isn't very proud of it, and has things like this early version of "Bing Bing" deleted pretty quickly.
    • Serang isn't the old shame, though. In fact, she has posted photos of her with Crayon Pop members on her Twitter that were taken after she left the group.
  • Dye Hard: Way's hair has varied between brunette, red, and blonde. Currently she has light brown hair.
    • As more minor examples, Choa had blonde hair at one point, and Ellin's hair has gone from brunette to blonde, strawberry blonde, and now black with blonde streaks.
  • Fan Community Nicknames - Sketchbook
    • Many of their fans are older men, so they are referred to as Pop-jussi. Female fans are Pop-jumma. The dividing line seems to be if that you are older than Gummi, you are one of these.
    • Crayon Pop fans have also been referred to as Cuties, but this has become less popular.
    • In addition, each member's fans have names:
      • Gummi: Gum Li Dang
      • Ellin: Eldorado
      • Choa: Choppa
      • Way: Wayland
      • Soyul: Haebaragi
  • Leslie Nielsen Syndrome - As Hurricane Pop and in Crayon Pop's early days, their image was closer to a traditional idol group, albeit still Lighter and Softer than their K-Pop contemporaries. To make themselves stand out, they moved away from serious and slightly sexy and started wearing the tracksuits and introducing more light-hearted choreography.
  • Meme Acknowledgment - Crayon Pop has mentioned that they have seen many of the dance covers of "Bar Bar Bar" that get posted on YouTube.
  • No Budget - Crayon Pop hasn't ever had much of one to work with, being from a small company. However, they have made good with what was given to them.
    • Their trademark guerrilla concerts originated from this. Because they were not popular enough and couldn't buy slots on the music shows, they began to perform anywhere they could to garner public interest.
      • Although their newfound fame makes it harder, they still do them on occasion, but they're more official.
    • The girls all lived in one small, cramped apartment at the beginning of their careers. They have since moved to a bigger one, as their CEO promised if "Bar Bar Bar" got a win.
    • Speaking of "Bar Bar Bar," the music video was supposedly made on a budget of less than $300.
    • They also reportedly used to do their own makeup for performances following their debut, even televised ones.
    • Because of the ongoing changes at Chrome, Evolution Pop, Vol. 1 was entirely self-made by the girls. Their roles:
      • Geummi and Ellin: Costumes
      • Choa: Hair styles and makeup
      • Way: Marketing, promotion strategy, and music video production
      • Soyul: Logo and album cover design
  • The Pete Best: Former member Serang left early in the group's existence, and was replaced by Way.
  • Sleeper Hit: "Bar Bar Bar" was not a very successful song until it went viral as a dance craze.
  • Throw It In!: According to Choa, the part of "Lonely Christmas" when she dances like Michael Jackson was her goofing around, and the film crew decided to record it and put in the video.
