• Actor Allusion: The pilot has Sam making a cynical comment about the foster care system and being called out on it by Priscilla based on her own positive experiences. Sam is played by Kate Ritchie of Home and Away fame, a show with a long history of presenting idealised foster families, with Kate's character Sally starting as a foster child and eventually becoming a great foster mother herself.
• Those Two Actors: Kate Ritchie and Martin Dingle Wall play detective partners, having previously played romantic partners Sally Fletcher and Flynn Saunders in Home and Away (though Flynn was recast with Joel McIlroy by the time the two got engaged), as well as Les and Judi Kane in Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities.
