- Playing Against Type: Toni Tennille provided backing vocals for Pink Floyd's 1979 album The Wall, the content of which is much darker than Captain & Tennille's usual fare. Reportedly, she appeared at one concert during the album's supporting tour, and a Pink Floyd fan who recognized her didn't believe that she sang on the album until his friend whipped out a copy that he brought and checked the credits.

- In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, the minor villain Captain Tennille is named after the group. In the English localization, he's instead named Captain Dragon (a reference to the Captain's name being Daryl Dragon), preserving the reference while avoiding a trademark dispute.
- Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is named after "Love Will Keep Us Together".
