Trivia / Ambience: A Fleet Symphony

  • Ascended Fanon: In chapter 216, the term "Damon Love Brigade" comes up, the author having cribbed it from a reviewer.
  • Creator's Favorite: the author blatantly admits that the Shiratsuyu-Class is his favorite class of destroyers and doesn't hesitate to declare this in several of his Author's notes, attributing to the Shiratsuyu-Class's clear strength dominance among the destroyers in the fleet. However, as the story eventually reveals, their enormous strength comes at a price.
  • Doing It for the Art: As mentioned in the chapter 200 author's notes, the author is very much aware that there's many detractors, but he's doing this as a personal journey rather than for acclaim and adoration.
  • Fandom Nod: The author occasionally makes reference to fan comments and theories.
    • On March 25, 2015, an anonymous reviewer asked to see a pairing between Benjamin and Haruna. This finally comes to pass, a year and a half later, in chapter 262, on September 23, 2016.
  • What Could Have Been: The entire Germany arc had been written with Damon's presence in mind. However, the author decided, on a whim, to kill him off during the last mission against the Coalition.
    • The Author's Note on the first chapter states that the author initially wished to write the story in second person, but since doing so would be against Fanfiction terms of service, the author had to create an original main character.
  • Write What You Know: in chapter 324, part of the Combined Fleet takes a trip to Manzanar National Historic Site, the former site of the Manzanar Internment Camp that held incarcerated Japanese-Americans during World War II. The author had spent a semester researching the history of Japanese-American internment in America during the war for his Capstone paper and presentation (something akin to a thesis paper/presentation) and decided to briefly write about it in the story.
