We all need a big sister as encouraging as Sarah
  • The first episode, full stop. Lynn is sleeping when the truck collides with her car, and then we get a vision of Misuzu bursting into petals while Lynn calls out for her.
    Mama? Mama! Mama...mama...
  • Misuzu's death. She instantly sees the truck and knows she's going to die, so she shields Lynn to the best of her ability. Lynn is then seen in the hospital, badanged as she rests, implying that if it wasn't for Misuzu's Heroic Sacrifice she would have shared her fate.
    • A bit of Fridge Tearjerker - if Lynn was that injured from the accident, one can only imagine how mangled Misuzu's body was.
    • Even the driver was killed in the accident - the same one who had been positively conversing with Misuzu before the crash.
  • Also, when Lynn wakes up, she sees her father George with tears in his eyes. Being the cheerful child she is, Lynn thinks these are tears are of happiness and is oblivious to the fact that her mum just died.
  • George trying to hold back telling the truth to Lynn. He says that Misuzu has gone away for a while...and then we see his car pull up to the grassy graveyard, with the camera focusing on a certain cross gravestone in the ground...
  • When Lynn tries to greet Sarah, she excitedly bursts into her room, only for Sarah to tell her off and say she has no sister. When Lynn tries to ask that they at least have breakfast together, she's hauled away by a maid. She then spends the rest of the day sobbing into her rabbit upset that Sarah hates her.
  • When Lynn gives Sarah flowers for the first time, Sarah refuses, and throws them in her face in front of Arthur and Edward. Lynn is so broken that she runs out of the house crying and stays outside in the rain, while Arthur is shocked that his childhood best friend would do such a thing. As the maids and the Brighton brothers search for Lynn, she remains hidden behind a bush, having a vision of Misuzu comforting her before passing out.
  • Sarah is arguably the biggest woobie in the show. Born with a disease that even her own grandfather looks down on her for (stating that he doesn't believe Sarah will surpass the average life expectancy - and she's his favourite grandchild, mind you), she spent her days lonely and confined to her bed, with Arthur being her only friend. When Lynn comes along, Sarah is angry and scared that Lynn may upstage her and refuses to be her friend, and in one of her rants, she even curses out George for being so neglectful of her.
Sarah: "I don't have a sister! And....as for my father..."
  • Misuzu has a harsh enough life, but after her death the Duke badmouths her and condemns his son for getting together with an "Eastern woman". Way to kick someone when they're already down, Duke.
    • It gets worse: In the manga, it's revealed that even Misuzu's own parents didn't support her marrying George and cut her off afterwards. Misuzu virtually had no support, raised Lynn as a single mother for years, and died without ever getting accepted from her and George's side of the family.
  • Madeleine, Thomas and Mary telling Lynn her mother died. Lynn suddenly has a flashback of what happened that day and begs Sarah, Arthur and Edward to tell her it isn't true. Their silence just confirms it for her. Lynn, who had previously been exclaiming that it wasn't true and refusing to believe it, can only stare in shock.
  • In an early episode of Season 2, Isabelle gets sick. Keep in mind Sarah is also Delicate and Sickly. Apparently this deathly disease runs in the Russell family. We can only hope George and Diana don't grow up with the same strain of illness...
  • In the first episode of Season 2, Vivian is trying to put Andrews down after spending years of her life abusing him, thankfully stopped by outside intervention. Even then she still tries to traumatize Andrews by showing up randomly, knowing the crippling effect she has on the animal.
  • Sophie sees a picture of a woman on Lynn's table and asks who she is. Lynn explains that she's her mother Misuzu, and tells her of the memories she had. Sophie then sobs, because Lynn saying that reminded her of her own mother, who's an abusive bitch.
  • Sophie being abused by Jeanne. The emotional grip Jeanne has on her daughter is so bad that it causes the girl to have a panic attack and pass out when she's already gravely injured. And Isabelle decides that enough is enough and Jeanne has to be a better mother to Sophie.
  • Arthur being forced to be Mary's Knight to the party. He has a sad, fallen expression on his face the entire time he's linking arms with the Waverly girl. Mary blackmailed him by threatening to tell Lynn the Marble Mansion has been sold if he doesn't, and he doesn't want to Break the Cutie so he agrees. This ends up breaking Lynn anyway, as when she sees them together she's so hurt that Arthur would willingly go out with the person who repeatedly bullied and abused her that she runs outside to have a good cry. Edward hears of this and rushes to the party, making his way to his brother....and then punches him for daring to associate with Mary.
