Tear Jerker / One Chance

• On the second day, you confront one of the scientists on the rooftop. He jumps off right in front of you.
  Matthew: ... Oh God... John, what have we done? I've done the test a thousand times, it's so much worse than we thought. It's going to change everything...
• On the fourth day, your coworkers will suddenly appear when you pick up the newspaper. They say that they might be onto a cure, but understand if you would wish to stay home with your family. This is the last time you see most of them, as they all either succumbed to the pathogen or killed themselves the next day. What makes it even more of a Tear Jerker though are the results of either option you choose:
  • If you go to work that day, you'll have an extended sequence of returning home that night. You find your wife, Penny, lying in the bathtub with a huge amount of blood around her. John visibly falls onto his knees in anguish.
  • What's the first thing Molly asks you the next day? "Daddy, where's mummy?"
  • If you didn't come in to work that day, Jim will have underwent a Sanity Slippage and try to murder you the next day. If you choose to fight back, he'll walk off in frustration. When you go home that evening, you're treated to the sight of your dead wife and daughter and find Jim's hanged corpse in your room.
  • The use of Tautou by Brand New in either scene does not help.
• It's subtle, in the last few days, the newspapers are no longer delivered anymore.
• The Wham Line on the final day:
  Today, every living cell on Planet Earth will die. You had one chance.
• On the final day, you can choose to die peacefully in the park, either alone or with your daughter. It's rather heartbreaking to watch.
• Even the Bittersweet Ending gets some of this. Sure that John and Molly survive, but it's implied that they are the last ones on Earth.
