Tropes in this series include:
- The Bible: Manny is possessed by God and sends Susan away to New Jerusalem.
- Big Good: In Part 5, Manny, who is now possessed by God, tries to help Greg, but Greg believes he's just being a "little shit" again and leaves him.
- Black Comedy: The series takes advantage of DOAWK's black comedy and makes the Heffleys' encounters with the SCPs both morbidly hilarious and depressing.
- Downer Ending: The series ends with Greg being the only known survivor of his family, only for him to witness the SCP Foundation wiping out the Earth with saturated nuclear bombing to start anew. As Greg writes down his last words, his final thoughts are of how at least the sun is beautiful tonight.
- Killed Offscreen: Rodrick is presumably killed by an SCP in his basement.
- Outside-Context Problem: To a regular person, nobody knows what the hell these monsters are and the only thing being done about it is a mysterious organization that may or may not be hostile, and said organization eventually nukes the entire Earth at the end to clean up the whole mess.
- Precision F-Strike: The very first two sentences of Part 1:Today at school, one of the kids showed everyone some weird photo of a weird fucking grey thing his uncle saw in the woods or something. That thing fucking terrified me, honestly.
- What Happened to the Mouse?: It's not clear what happened to Manny's pig. Greg tried asking Manny about it, but since he refused to call him "God", we'll never know.
