.Steps Toward Nirvana is a quest made by fallintolife on Sufficient Velocity. It is a reincarnation quest that will span exactly as many worlds as it takes for the protagonist to find peace.
It’s a simple system that draws inspiration from a few sources: Warhammer 40k Dark Hersey, Polyhistor Academy on QQ , and the author's own poking at a huge list of published RPG systems to make a reincarnation fic focused upon the Main Character finding inner peace.

Steps Toward Nirvana contains examples of:
- All of the Other Reindeer: Shikako is a pariah among the Nara for both her dark skin and Kumo ancestry.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Kento, despite being a good person, is a martial arts master with hives of poisonous insects inside him.
- Brilliant, but Lazy: Inverted, Shikako Nara is brilliant, but has not shown any of the clan laziness.
- Combat Pragmatist: Kento is very, very good at fighting dirty.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Shikako.
- Disappeared Dad: Both Tsunade and Shikako have this. Whereas Shikako's dad was an undercover Kumo nin that vanished, Tsunade's father is never even mentioned.
- Discontinuity Nod: Certain things from canon Naruto have been changed. In the author's words "no sharingan wank"
- Forbidden Friendship: Kento and Kato's friendship. Despite Kento already being firmly on the Senju side of the line they make it work
- Friend to Bugs: Kento, like most Aburame, has an affinity for insects.
- Gender Bender: Kento switches genders whenever cold water is thrown on him. He has learned to deal with it.
- Good Parents: Jin and Suzume Aburame.Even after finding out that Kento is the reincarnation of a 60+ year old man, both still accept him as their child
- "We don't care who you were, honey. Only who you are, and who you want to be...We know everything you told the Jounin Commander," father adds quietly, "and agree with him in the main: we would not have believed you at such a young age."
- Hair-Contrast Duo: Tsunade and Shikako. One is a blond optimistic ninja princess, the other is a dark haired cynical deadpan snarker.
- Improbable Age: Kento, Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Shikako. Each displays a maturity that makes it easy to forget they are still only 6 year olds training to be killers.
- Mundane Made Awesome:
- Kento's knowledge of English becomes a whole new level of encryption for Konoha shinobi
- Open-Minded Parent: Both Suzume and Jin. See Good Parent entry.
- Papa Wolf: Papa Aburame is willing to go so far as to brave politics for his son. Needless to say there is not much he wouldn't do for Kento's safety.
- The Stoic: Kento, Papa Aburame, and the Aburame Clan
- Wham Episode:
- Someone is out to kill Kato, the Uchiha heir, and tried to use Kento to make it happen
- The Yamanaka mind reader can see images of Kento's past life ,specifically skyscrapers, and believes they are the towers of Amegakure.
- The expert they call in finds out that Kento is reincarnated.
- Shikako is also reincarnating
- The Meeting. In her past life (the Hunger Games) Shikako met another reincarnating man with memories of her time in Final Fantasy VII. He buys and tortures her to death.
