Recap / Yu Gi Oh First Anime Series Ep 2 The Devil Gamer The Trap Of Hell

Go To

Anzu, Honda and Miho begin working part-time at a new burger restaurant. One day, a police officer enters and informs them that an escaped convict is in the restaurant.

Tropes associated with this episode:

  • Coincidence Magnet: Instead of the police officer finding Tetsu the escaped convict, he also found Jirou, another escaped convict.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Miho is appalled by Jounouchi's implications that Anzu might be acting as an escort for older men, enough to confront Anzu after school. Granted they were wrong about what Anzu was doing, but it shows a boy crazy ditz like Miho doesn't approve of teenage girls dating adult men for any reason.
Miho: Just you wait, Anzu! Miho's gonna save you from those older men!
  • Hostage Situation: After being revealed, Jirou forces everyone on the ground and holds Anzu as a hostage.
  • I Lied: Anzu tricks Tetsu into getting caught by saying that the hamburger buns have egg in it, which he's allergic to.
  • Kill It with Fire: Subverted. Jirou believed that he was set on fire, but it was an illusion. In the manga, however, he really was set on fire.
  • Lighter and Softer: As mentioned before, the way Jirou was defeated in the episode is radically different than the manga. He at least lives in the episode, but with mental scars.
  • Master of Disguise: Tetsu Tasaki, the escaped convict, is known as this.
  • Out-Gambitted: Yami Yugi used his thumb to light Jirou's cigarette... and then placed the lighter on the hand pouring vodka. If Jirou were to fire his gun, he would then be set on fire.
  • Plot Allergy: Tetsu is allergic to eggs. Anzu uses this to expose him by claiming the restaurant's hamburger buns are made with eggs.
  • Rescue Romance: Played with. Anzu may have been blindfolded at the time, but she comes to develop a crush on the owner of the voice (Dark Yugi) who rescued her from Jirou.
  • Russian Roulette: Yami Yugi's "Shadow Game" involved him and Jirou using only one finger to do whatever.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: As opposed to the convict in the manga, Jirou only receives the illusion that he's perpetually on fire.
  • Weirder Than Usual: Anzu, Miho and Honda acting differently is what leads to Yugi and Jounouchi following them.
  • Would Hit a Girl: When Anzu tells Yugi to run, Jirou slaps her. Guess what happens?
